Why spring is the ideal time to treat
Spring, roughly September to November, is the sweet spot for a general pest treatment in Brisbane. As the days warm up, ants, cockroaches, spiders and mosquitoes come out of their quieter winter pattern and start breeding again. Treating during spring gets ahead of that build-up, knocking down the first wave before populations explode in the heat.
Think of it as prevention rather than reaction. A spring treatment lays down a protective barrier around the home while numbers are still low, so the summer peak is far more manageable. Homes across the northern suburbs like Chermside, Aspley and Bracken Ridge tend to see the first ant trails and cockroach sightings around this time, which is the signal to book in.
Summer is peak pest activity
Summer, from December through February, is when Brisbane pests are at their most active. The combination of heat and humidity is ideal for cockroaches, ants and spiders, and standing water after summer storms gives mosquitoes everywhere to breed. This is the season most people notice a problem indoors.
You can absolutely still treat in summer, and we do a lot of it, but you are treating an established population rather than heading one off. That is why the spring appointment pays for itself: it means summer is about maintaining control rather than fighting a full infestation.
Autumn and winter: quieter, but rodents move in
As things cool from March into the winter months, insect activity slows down and outdoor pests become less obvious. It is tempting to assume the pest season is over, but the cooler months bring their own issue: rodents.
As temperatures drop, rats and mice look for warm, sheltered places to nest, and the space above your ceiling, wall cavities and subfloors become attractive. Autumn and early winter are the right time to focus on rodent control and to seal up entry points before mice and rats settle in for the season. A quieter insect period is also a good, low-pressure time to book a treatment without the summer rush.
Termite inspections belong on the annual calendar
Termites are a year-round risk in South East Queensland and do not follow the same seasonal pattern as insects you can see. The industry standard is a professional termite inspection at least once a year, and more often for higher-risk properties. Spring is a sensible time to schedule it, as it pairs neatly with a general treatment and gets your home checked before the warmer, more active months.
Because termites work silently inside timber, an annual inspection is the main way to catch activity early. Regular checks are far cheaper than repairing structural damage, which is the whole argument for staying on a schedule. Autumn (March to May): activity tapers off, a good time to treat before winter and to start thinking about rodents. Winter (June to August): quietest for insects but prime time for rats and mice moving indoors, so focus on rodent control and sealing entry points. The single most useful habit is not waiting for an infestation. Prevention is cheaper, easier and less disruptive than dealing with pests once they are established.
